Welcome to the Museum of Modern Water

Where innovation in sports meets the art of sustainable design. At Permavoid, we see water not only as a valuable resource, but as a design material - a living element that can enhance performance and safety, support climate adaptation and connect communities. Here, we showcase four field concepts, each a unique expression of how water, sustainability, safety and performance can coexist in perfect balance. Each field represents a new era in sports infrastructure; one where rainwater becomes performance and innovation becomes resilience. Together, they form our blueprint for the future of sports: sustainable, safe, climate-adapted and built on the power of water.

Multifunctional, future proof artificial turf fields

A consortium of Dutch market parties TAUW, HB Adviesbureau, CSC-Greenfields and Permavoid with a shared mission: to design and install future-proof artificial turf fields that serve as a climate mitigation tool for the city and its inhabitants. Based on location-specific needs, the optimal composition of each field is advised using data-driven insights.

Increased hours of play on natural grass field while generating energy

TKI-project EnergyGrass is a multi-year large-scale researchproject led by KWR Water Research Institute and Wageningen University, in collaboration with DutchBlue, the City of Amsterdam and Permavoid. The project explores how natural grass field scan thrive in urban environments by integrating water storage and capillary reuse, natural fiber soil reinforcement and energy-harvesting technology. Using location-specific data, there search aims to optimize water retention, durability, and energy performance creating natural fields that stay playable longer, support climate adaptation and contribute to healthier cities.

Smart, sustainable field control using water, air& sensor technology

Heracles Almelo upgraded their stadium field to natural grass using the Permavoid system, enhanced with sensors for full water and air control beneath the field. This setup creates optimal conditions for grass growth while enabling sustainable and efficient field management. An integrated air duct with adjustable fans allows pressure modulation to accelerate drainage or boost irrigation as needed. Additionally, the system helps retain heat and reduce energy loss, lowering both energy consumption and operational costs.

Temporary event fields with consistancy of play for optimal performance

A collaborative development by Permavoid and its US licensee ABT, creating modular, temporary fields for high-end global tournaments. This sustainable technology allows venues to be transformed rather than building new stadiums; perfectly aligned with today’s focus on climate-conscious and resource-efficient solutions. The system has been extensively tested over the past years in diverse climate zones, proving its reliability and performance under varying conditions. Designed for rapid installation, circular water use and high-performance play, we areproud that our system will support next year’s World Cup.
